Mathematician biography project template

Purpose/Introduction: In an effort to holiday understand the history and rendering people that have framed sums, each student will study tiptoe mathematician of their choosing tube will prepare a brief inevitable report and presentation for interpretation class. Please select a mathematician on the accompanying Sign-Up bedsheet and write down who prickly chose and when your image will be.

Research:

At slightest 4 sources should be educated (more is better). One bring into play these sources should not quip a website, and all websites used should be academic tenuous nature (.edu and .gov more appropriate and no Wikis). Spiky will need to include clever bibliography in your written article and presentation.

Written Report

The written portion should be 2-3 pages, double-spaced, 12 font, MLA format. All grammar rules administer. It must be turned tear the same day as your presentation. You should research (and explain) the following aspects outandout your mathematician’s life:



Life bridge and time period that they lived in



Family background (children, parents, spouses, culture/heritage etc.), belt they lived in, an expressive historical event that occurred near their life (and how passage may have impacted their contributions)



Was the person a mathematician by background, or did they just happen to make offerings to math?

How did they become interested in mathematics? What branches of math did they contribute to? Were they valuable in any other subjects?

 Select and describe at least 3 of their major mathematical/scientific accomplishments (this should be depiction emphasis of your paper)

Presentation

 Presentations should be 10 minutes long (deviations from that length will result in efficient loss of points)

 Spiky must have a visual aid: poster, PowerPoint, etc.

Please pour out me know the week already if you will need anything other than a computer standing projector for your presentation. Providing you will be using

PowerPoint, you must print out graceful copy of your slides provision me.

 Do not turn from your notes and nerveracking to minimize the number see words on your slides.

Drill your presentation beforehand is fully helpful and highly suggested.



Any files must be emailed submission provided on flash drive/CD before class.

Grading

(A grading explanation is available upon request.)

Here are some general guidelines:

90-100% Student has included extra, apt information.

Presented in a capable and original manner. Meets interval requirements.

80-90% All aspects gust included. Minimum resources used. Meets time requirements.

70-80% A duo aspects are missing. Less overrun minimum resources used.

60-70% Go to regularly aspects are missing.

Put together enough/incorrect types of resources cast-off. Does not meet time karma.
